Free Radicals and Antioxidants

Studies have found that even premium pet foods on the market today lack the proper nutrients required for cell support and longevity.  Although these pet foods are expensive, they can still contain free radicals that can be potentially hazardous to your pet’s health.

Free radicals are molecules with an unstable number of electrons, typically due to the presence of oxygen, that can negatively affect healthy cells in the body up to 10,000 times a day.   In recent studies, free radicals have been shown to cause significant harm to the body’s cellular structure.  As free radicals constantly hit the cell membrane, it begins to break down and become weak.  As a result, the cell can mutate or even die, thus lowering the overall quality and functionality of tissues and the immune system.

On the other end of the spectrum there are antioxidants, which are vitamins, minerals and enzymes that protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals.  Although the body produces natural antioxidants to defend against free radicals, there are more free radicals actively destroying the cell membrane than the body can repel. This is where NuVet Plus® comes into play: by providing the body with additional antioxidants, the immune system is strengthened and free radicals are more effectively eliminated.
